Liverpool 'believe' they can reach Premier League top four - Lucas

LIVERPOOL players have found their belief again after a blip of results this spring, assures midfielder Lucas.

Rodgers looks ahead to Newcastle clash [AMBIENT]

The Reds lost two straight games - to Manchester United and Arsenal - after going 13 unbeaten to dent their Premier League top-four ambitions.

They bounced back from those heavy defeats to beat Blackburn 1-0 in an FA Cup quarter-final replay last Wednesday and can look forward to a last-four date with Aston Villa at Wembley.

And ahead of tonight’s league clash with Newcastle at Anfield, Lucas believes Brendan Rodgers’ men have got their old swagger back.

"We have to win the game," the Brazilian told Sky Sports.

"We are at home and after two defeats, it's important to get three points and start winning in the last seven games, starting with Newcastle.

"It's going to be hard but after the FA Cup game, it has given us a lot of belief to get back to winning ways on Monday night."

Lucas says Liverpool are ready for a classic Anfield night under the floodlights against Newcastle

Liverpool sit sixth in the league, seven points off fourth-place Manchester City with tonight their game in hand.

They face a Newcastle side bang out of form and without a win at Anfield in their last 19 attempts.

But Lucas still expects a tense night on Merseyside as the Magpies seek to end their season on a high.

"It changes the atmosphere a little bit; people are more excited, it's a reminder of European games," he added.

"It's going to be a good night and after two defeats we just have to perform and get the three points."
