The Reds organised a friendly against a Shrews youth side at Melwood.

Express Sport understands the game was organised specifically for the fitness of Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel.

Both players picked up three-match bans following Liverpool's 2-1 defeat against Manchester United last month.

Gerrard was given a straight red for a reckless tackle on Ander Herrera just 38 seconds after coming on at Anfield.
