MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing to step up their interest in Turkish defender Ozan Tufan, after being told by Shota Arveladze that he is good enough to make the grade at Old Trafford.

The Bursaspor star has also been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea, with the 20-year-old's father also claiming that Manchester City are interested.

And reports in Turkey suggest United are ready to step up their interest in the player, with Louis van Gaal impressed by the player's versatility.

Tufan has been compared to French midfielder Paul Pogba by Arveladze but can also play in defence.

Arveladze told Haber61: "Ozan Tufan could join Manchester United within a short space of time.

"This is not an exaggeration because I know a number of European football's biggest clubs are keeping close tabs on him.

"Currently I liken him to Pogba from Juventus.
