Striker Daniel Sturridge REVEALS where Liverpool went wrong this season

DANIEL STURRIDGE has blamed Liverpool’s early-season form for their struggles in the Premier League this campaign.

The Reds lost six of their first 12 league games but have reversed their fortunes and now sit fifth in the table, seven points off Manchester City in fourth place, having come close to winning the title last May.

They face Newcastle on Monday night in a must-win clash if they are to reclaim their spot in the Champions League next season.

And Sturridge, who spent five months of the term out with a calf injury, says his team-mates know where they went wrong.

"We have, of course, not played as well as we have done in the last season but things change," he told Sky Sports.

"Of course we aim to play well until the end of the season and next season we will hopefully be able to win the Premier League, not just get into the top four.

"We just need to start the season better than we did this season. Top four is still feasible. We have seven games left and anything is possible.”

Liverpool still have the FA Cup to play for after crashing out in the Champions League group stage and losing to Chelsea in the League Cup semi-finals.

They face Aston Villa at Wembley next weekend and Sturridge is confident his side can get a result.

"Every game is important now. If we advance in the cup we will have nine games and every one will be a cup final,” he said.

"The FA Cup is huge for us but we have to still understand we have a chance in the Premier League and getting into the top four.

"We won't put our eggs in one basket. There are still seven games to go in the Premier League and we are looking forward to playing in each of those."
