The Mexican striker has struggled for game time since joining Real on a season-long loan last summer, but was handed his first league start since October in yesterday's 3-0 win over Eibar.

The 26-year-old took advantage of the opportunity by scoring Madrid's second with a first-half header.

Ancelotti was impressed with Hernandez's display and hinted that he could stay on at the La Liga giants past his temporary deal.

Speaking after the match, Ancelotti said: "[Hernandez] did very well and worked hard. He scored a goal and could have had another.

"And as for the future, he is owned by Manchester United. We will see at the end of the season."

Hernandez joined United in the summer of 2010 for £6.6million, but gradually fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of Robin van Persie two years later.
