Tim Sherwood: Daniel Levy wanted me to STAY at Tottenham

TIM SHERWOOD insists Daniel Levy never wanted a "divorce" and has revealed he was offered the chance to stay on at Tottenham despite being sacked as boss.

The 46-year-old was axed from his role at head coach at White Hart Lane last summer but turned down the opportunity to remain at the club in an alternative position.

But Sherwood is adamant his relationship with Levy is still strong as he prepares to return to his old stomping ground with new club Aston Villa tomorrow.

"Daniel didn't say what job - I was eyeing up the broom cupboards and all that," joked Sherwood.

"I was disappointed I was leaving the club, yes, but Daniel didn't want a divorce. He wanted me to stay in some kind of capacity. But I'm a manager now.

"Daniel's known me for a lot of years. It wasn't as if I fell off my chair and said, 'You're joking' at the end of the season. I knew it was coming.

"But will I shake hands with him tomorrow? Absolutely, I've been in communication with Daniel since I've left.

"I don't have any problem. He's a good guy, and he wants what's best for that football club.

"Daniel's done well for me because I wouldn't be sitting here as Aston Villa manager if wasn't for Tottenham Hotspur.

"I owe a lot to that football club, they gave me a platform to go and work."
