Jordan Henderson captained Liverpool to a 1-0 win over Blackburn tonight

The Reds bounced back from successive defeats in the best posssible fashion tonight by beating Blackburn 1-0 to secure safe passage to the FA Cup semi-finals.

Philippe Coutinho’s drilled effort off Henderson’s lay-off gave Brendan Rodgers’ men the win on a tense night at Ewood Park.

And Henderson believes the Reds deserved to progress.

“Yeah we did,” he told BT Sport. “It was a really important game for us. Everyone has been disappointed over the last couple of weeks with our performances and results. From start to finish we were brilliant, we defended fantastic.

“Philippe’s got a great football brain and the easy bit is giving him to it. It was a great strike, that brilliance wins us the game. Hopefully we can kick on with the last seven games in the Premier League and in the semi-final.

One headache for Liverpool manager Rodgers is Mamadou Sakho’s hamstring injury, which forced the centre-half off the pitch midway through the first half.

He was replaced by Kolo Toure, who was praised by Henderson for controlling a determined Blackburn attack.

“We’ve had suspensions and injuries over the last couple of weeks but we’ve done really well," Henderson said.

“Kolo was immense at the back towards the end. It was a great performance and we want to kick on now until the end of the season.”
