Steve McManaman postive despite 'atrocious' Liverpool display against Arsenal

STEVE MCMANAMAN says Liverpool do not know their best defence - but that it hasn’t harmed them up until recently.

Rodgers: No crisis here [AMBIENT]

The former Reds midfielder outlined defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal as examples of where Brendan Rodgers’ defence lacks organisation.

However, he stopped short of completely writing off the Anfield back three, claiming the system has worked for months up until their 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Discussing tonight’s clash with Blackburn, McManaman said the Reds can still take confidence from their current system.

“Defensively they’ve got eight or nine players to choose from and everyone’s got a different option over who to play,” he said on BT Sport.

“Nobody knows (who should be in) Liverpool’s best four or five. Is it Glen Johnson, Mamadou Sakho, Alberto Moreno?”

When addressing last weekend’s 4-1 loss to Arsenal, he said: “This was atrocious. I look at the weeks leading up to this, yes they’ve lost to Manchester United and Arsenal but they didn’t hardly conceded a goal before.

“Arsenal was a poor performance, no getting away from it, but let’s not forget the months before this. They’ve been on a great run.”
