Barcelona officials meet with Manchester United target Dani Alves over new contract

BARCELONA officials have today reportedly met with Dani Alves’ agent to begin desperate negotiations over a new contract.

Dani Alves Player Profile

Alves is reportedly set to leave the Nou Camp this summer when his current deal expires, with reports linking him with a free transfer to Manchester United.

But Barca appear willing to keep the Brazilian on, although it seems at a lower salary than his current wage.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Alves’ agent, Dinorah Santa Ana, was today summoned to meet with Barca officials to strike out a deal.

Barca want a decision from Alves immediately so they can prepare a replacement if he decides to move on after seven years at the club.

Manager Luis Enrique has three players who can fill the right-back spot, but Martin Montoya, Douglas nor Adriano Correia are seen as viable long-term solutions.

And with Barca’s transfer embargo restricting them in the market until 2016, their wish is to keep Alves, 31, for six more months at least.

Unfortunately for Enrique, United have made no secret of their desire to capture Alves and reportedly held contract talks with January over a three-year deal.

Manager Louis van Gaal is willing to spend big to get United back to the top of world football and, with little competition for him at Old Trafford, Alves may be tempted to see out his career in the Premier League.
