Barcelona RIVAL Man Utd, Real Madrid and Bayern for £15m right-back Matteo Darmian

BARCELONA have entered the race to sign sought-after Torino full-back Matteo Darmian.

Reports in Italy today claim the Nou Camp club are considering an offer for the 25-year-old, with the aim of completing the transfer next January.

Any move would severely hamper Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal’s summer plans to restructure his defence.

The right-back position is still vacant at Old Trafford after Van Gaal failed to adequately cover it last summer and Darmian is seen as a competent player who could fulfil the role on a more permanent basis than Antonio Valencia.

He is one of a number of players on Van Gaal’s summer shopping list, including centre-half Mats Hummels, who could leave Dortmund if the money is right.

Barcelona have reportedly joined the race to sign Matteo Darmian from Torino

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also keen on securing Italy international Darmian, with his value rising to £15million as Italian reports claim Real are frontrunners with Barca.

However, United were boosted by Darmian’s recent claims that he would be open to a move away from Torino.

And with Barca unable to field new players until their transfer embargo expires in 2016, United will feel they have a strong chance of wrapping up the deal.
