EXCLUSIVE: Man Utd plot £65m DOUBLE swoop to replace Van Persie AND Falcao

MEMPHIS DEPAY and Edinson Cavani are Manchester United’s top targets to replace Robin Van Persie and Radamel Falcao this summer.

Memphis Depay Player Profile

Louis Van Gaal is looking to beef up his strike force for United’s anticipated return to the Champions League next season.

And PSV Eindhoven's pacy, goal scoring winger Depay, 21, and Paris St Germain’s Uruguay striker Cavani are the men in his sights.

Depay, a member of Van Gaal’s Holland squad that clinched third place in last summer’s World Cup, has scored 25 goals from w wide position this season to help PSV runaway leaders of the Eredivisie.

PSV coach Phillip Cocu expects Depay, 21, to move on this summer and will not stand in his way, especially if United offer around £25m.

The unsettled Cavani is also likely to be available after a furious bust-up with PSG boss Laurent Blanc at the weekend when he was substituted.

Man United want to replace Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie with Edinson Cavani and Memphis Depay

Robin van Persie is in a gradual decline prompting suggestions that his best days are now behind him

Cavani, rated at around £40m, is unhappy at being played out of position and second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Van Gaal is ready to off-load Van Persie who will be 32 in August and entering the last year of his contract. Signficantly, United have not opened talks about an extension, fuelling suggestions Van Persie will move on.

Van Persie’s career peaked in 2010-11 and 2011-12 when he managed to avoid the injuries that have plagued most of his career.

In his last season at Arsenal he hit 37 goals to prompt Sir Alex Ferguson to buy him for £24m. In his first season at Old Trafford he hit 30 goals to help United to win their 20th League title.

But since then he has been in a gradual decline prompting suggestions that his best days are now behind him.

Edinson Cavani Player Profile

He managed 18 goals in David Moyes ill-fated season in charge but has managed only 10 this season.

He has been out injured for last six weeks out with ankle ligament damage and his absence has coincided with United finding best form of the season - five straight wins moving them into the top three for the first time this season.

Van Gaal has a close relationship with his fellow Dutchman – he made him captain of Holland – but is ready to put sentiment to one side and sell a player who has become surplus to requirements. He could move back to Holland - where he has expressed a desire to end his career.

Van Gaal has also accepted that Falcao’s season-long loan move from Monaco has not worked out and decided some time ago not to turn it into a permanent £50m move.

That leaves Untied needing two new front men to support Wayne Rooney and Depay and Cavani are understood to be the targets.
