ANDER HERRERA has burst onto the scene with his recent performances for Manchester United, including a brace against Aston Villa at the weekend.

The Spaniard's current form has drawn comparisions with Paul Scholes from the Old Trafford faithful.

But Herrera's season-long stats show that the 25-year-old may be more well rounded than Scholes.

In fact, the stats show that Herrera is one of the best all round midfielders currently plying his trade in the Premier League.

The graphic - provided by www.oulala.com - shows Herrera has more goals than Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho and more assists that Manchester City star David Silva.

The former Athletic Bilbao man also has a better pass completion rate than Jordan Henderson and more successful passes than Chelsea's Oscar.

He is a genius on and off the pitch and I know how happy he was after the game.

Juan Mata

Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey trails Herrera in terms of shot accuracy while Steven Gerrard can't match his tackles won per game.

And to round things out Herrera also won more duels than City's Fernandinho and makes more interceptions that Lucas Leiva.

The stats seem to support Juan Mata's assessment of his teammate, with the former Chelsea man hailing Herrera as a genius yesterday.

Writing in his blog he said: "I think this is the first time he scores twice in a game and I'm very happy for him! The truth is he deserves it.

"He is a genius on and off the pitch and I know how happy he was after the game."
