Ander Herrera: How Wayne Rooney has masterminded Man Utd's stunning turnaround

United beat Aston Villa 3-1 at the weekend to lift them into third spot above long-standing rivals Manchester City.

The Red Devils' recent good form is a far cry from the beginning of the season when they made their worse start to a campaign in 28 years.

And Herrera has hailed Rooney as his 'hero', claiming he is responsibility for reviving United in recent weeks.

"Wayne is our leader. He is maybe the strongest guy — not only physically but also mentally," Herrera told The Sun.

"He is our captain, our leader and our character. He shows very, very well what Manchester United is."

United host City on Sunday (4pm).
