Chris Ramsey says Tim Sherwood could have landed any job in the Premier League

QPR boss Ramsey will take on his friend and Aston Villa counterpart in a crucial relegation battle on Tuesday night.

And it was under 12 months ago that Ramsey was working as Sherwood’s assistant at Tottenham.

But the pair will now go toe-to-toe on the Villa Park touchline and Ramsey insists Sherwood’s success at White Hart Lane left him in demand.

Ramsey said: “I think that Tim did have negotiations with a few clubs.

“I’m not sure how far down the line he got with this club but he was very sought after when leaving Tottenham.

“Any club in the league would have wanted him at that stage barring the top three or four and I'm obviously happy for him that he’s gone to a big club like Aston Villa and I’m sure he’s going to do a good job.

Obviously I saw the speculation in the paper, Tim’s a sought after man

“I don’t know how close he was to getting the [QPR] job as he wasn’t involved in the negotiations.

"Obviously I saw the speculation in the paper, Tim’s a sought after man.

"I thought he did really well at Tottenham and there was a few clubs after him and I’m sure that Villa did well getting him ahead of two or three other clubs that could have got him.”

A win would take the lift the Hoops out of the relegation zone at Villa’s expensive.

And Ramsey admits it will be strange pitting his wits against Sherwood with the pair planning to meet up soon.

“It will be strange as the fact is that we’ll probably have a pint later on in the week,” he added.

“As far as going into the game, I’m going there as a representative of Queens Park Rangers and I’m sure he’ll be thinking the same as regards Aston Villa - the game really isn’t about me and Tim.

“I think the pressure is equal. But I’d rather be going into the game with the points tally than the points tally that we’ve got.”

Ramsey also issued injury updates on Chilean forward Eduardo Vargas and South Korean full-back Yun Suk-young.

He added: “Eduardo suffered a knee twist and we’re not sure how long he’s going to be out with that.

“We’re just waiting for the swelling to go down before they can take any procedure further.

“Yun came off with a knock to the head as a precaution as it’s well-documented that you really do need to be careful with those sort of injuries.

“So at the moment we are a little bit thin but I don’t really want to go on about injuries because we’ve got other people available ready to be drafted in.”
