Red Devils boss Van Gaal put the £60million unsettled player on the bench in yesterday's win over Aston Villa.
Di Maria made a cameo role and set up Wayne Rooney's goal in the 3-1 victory at Old Trafford.
Though Di Maria has failed to impress, Van Gaal claims the Argentine will start on a more regular basis soon.
"I have said that already - expensive is not the issue," Van Gaal told the club's official website.

"Do I have to make a line-up with the most expensive players? I don't think so.
"That is not an argument, in my opinion, but an argument is that he gave his 10th assist and he did not play all the games like Herrera, so it is fantastic.
