Jose Mourinho reveals extent of injury to Chelsea star Diego Costa

JOSE MOURINHO believes that Diego Costa is close to returning for Chelsea following an injury scare.

Chelsea v Stoke - Premier League Preview

The fearsome striker limped off in the 3-2 win over Hull with a hamstring problem, missing Spain’s recent internationals in the process.

The Blues take on Stoke tomorrow (5.30pm) at Stamford Bridge as Mourinho looks to bring home Chelsea’s first Premier League title in five years.

And speaking ahead of the clash, the Special One admitted that although Costa may not feature in the starting XI against the Potters, the former Atletico Madrid man is almost back to full fitness.

Mourinho explained: “Diego trained yesterday and today, he’s not injured but I don’t know if I start with him or not.

You need confidence, the freedom to express the maximum intensity, that is our doubt

“We need to analyse the situation with him. It’s the same injury, hamstring. He dedicates himself to that, no days off, he’s working hard.

“We did all the tests two days ago to confirm the situation. In this moment he is fine but football is more than that.

“You need confidence, the freedom to express the maximum intensity, that is our doubt.

“We don’t believe in operations. It’s the last decision for every injury so we always try to be conservative, to play, to train, to recover, to try to compensate for the little problem. I don’t believe we’ll ever go in the surgery direction.”
