Chelsea to rival Arsenal for Raheem Sterling... but Brendan Rodgers will play hardball

CHELSEA are reportedly ready to join the race to sign Liverpool contract rebel Raheem Sterling.

Raheem Sterling Player Profile

Sterling's future at Anfield is a cause for concern as he rejected the club's opening offer of a new deal which would see him net £100,000 a week.

The 20-year-old appears to be aware clubs are after him and admitted during an interview with BBC earlier this week that he was 'flattered' by interest from Arsenal.

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have made an approach for Sterling.

They claim they want to be kept in the loop about Sterling, who is also attracting attention from Manchester City.

I cannot speak for the owners but I have a good idea of what they would do

Brendan Rodgers

Chelsea and City wouldn't have any problems funding a big-money move and could give Sterling a platform for success.

But Rodgers' stance on Sterling is unlikely to soften and he insists the player will remain at Anfield.

He said: "He's got two-and-a-half years to go on his deal and he's not going anywhere in the summer. I cannot speak for the owners but I have a good idea of what they would do.

"I know them well enough and for me it would not happen. Liverpool are one of the superpowers of football and the owners have made it clear that money doesn't come into it.

Raheem Sterling's Liverpool future is up in the air

"If the club doesn't want to sell, it won't sell, it's as simple as that.

"Money has never been the objective for the club.

"Whatever player — Raheem or anybody — it would always be on the terms of the club.

"He still has two-and-a- bit years left of his deal so it's not something we're overly concerned about. I'm confident that at the end of the season we'll find the solution."
