Arsene Wenger talks new contract for Arsenal star

ARSENE WENGER has admitted that Abou Diaby could sign a new contract to stay at Arsenal past the end of the season.

Arsenal v Liverpool - Premier League Preview

The French midfield is a free agent this summer, and is yet to make an appearance this campaign after suffering yet another injury.

However, Diaby returned to action with Arsenal’s Under-21 side this week alongside of Jack Wilshere, and will be hoping to play some part as the Gunners close in on a top four finish in the Premier League.

And speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against Liverpool (12.45pm), Wenger revealed that he had talked to Diaby about his future, adding that any chance of a new deal for the 28-year-old also depended on his performances throughout the remainder of the season.

Wenger explained: “Yes [I’ve made a decision].

“I chatted with him about how I envisage his future. He understands completely that he has to perform and show that he can be present in a consistent way.

“I will see where we go from there. I don’t want to go into details. It has to be linked a little bit with his presence.”
