A contract is on the table that would see the 39-year-old become manager on a permanent basis.

The former Hearts boss has been in temporary charge since replacing Allan Johnston in early February.

Having presided over two wins, five draws and one defeat in eight league games, Locke has done enough to convince the Rugby Park board he should get the job.

However, Express Sport understands there are a number of clauses in the deal that Locke is uncomfortable with.

One particular bone of contention is that his contract could be terminated if Killie fail to finish in the top six.

They currently sit in eighth place, but the club’s hierarchy expect the team to reach their Premiership target in future seasons.

There are other issues Locke wants ironed out before he agrees to take the job, but he is confident negotiations with outgoing chairman Michael Johnston will come to a satisfactory conclusion.

Locke said: “I’m hopeful I will be able to get it sorted out in the next two or three days.

“I certainly think the club should push on and make sure they have a manager appointed. Hopefully, it will be done before the weekend.

“It is important I get my future sorted first and foremost, then we can have all the plans for next season in place.”

Former Killie manager Johnston was placed on gardening leave after revealing he did not intend to stay at the club beyond the summer.

He has since agreed a settlement over the last three months of his contract.
