Mario Suarez's agent has issued a transfer warning to Premier League suitors.

Arsenal and Liverpool are tracking the Atletico Madrid midfielder, but both clubs could struggle to land him due to the level of interest emanating from Italy.

"He was followed in January by three or four Italian teams, including Milan, Inter and Napoli," Suarez's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon told Italian news outlet Football Italia.

"At the moment I couldn't say if there are any meetings planned with [AC Milan's Adriano] Galliani, but it's true that in the past he was pursued by Milan."

Wayne Rooney says he has never considered leaving Manchester United to play in Italy.

Chelsea great Ashley Cole is currently with Roma, but Rooney doesn't intend to join Cole anytime soon.

"They had some great teams like Juventus and AC Milan and I loved to watch Fiorentina because I loved watching [Gabriel] Batistuta," Rooney told The Daily Mail.

"But to be honest I don’t think I will be playing in Italy."

Chelsea are set to be joined by Liverpool in the race to sign Alex Song.

Song has enjoyed a fine season on loan at West Ham and he is set to spark a bidding war in the summer.

The Liverpool Echo claim Brendan Rodgers will pursue a move although it is unclear how much Song would cost.

The 27-year-old has also been tracked by Chelsea, who view him as a possible back-up for Nemanja Matic.
