The Daily Star reports that Louis van Gaal wants to reward the 29-year-old for his fine form this season, with Young impressing in both midfield and defensive roles.

The Englishman's current deal expires in the summer of 2016, and it is believed that he wants to sign a three-year deal to remain at Old Trafford.

However, the main sticking point for United is Young's current £120,000 weekly wage, and the Star adds that Van Gaal wants to reduce that cost.

Indeed, it is believed that Young and the club are set for lengthy negotiations in order to finalise the proposed deal.
