Real to hand Iker Casillas £2.5m payoff to FAST-TRACK move for Man Utd's David De Gea

REAL MADRID are preparing to hand Iker Casillas a £2.5million payoff in order to create room for Manchester United's David De Gea, according to reports.

David De Gea Player Profile

De Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Real, as he stalls over signing a new deal at United, said to be worth £140,000-a-week.

Real see De Gea as the long term replacement for legendary custodian Casillas but know they need to move soon or risk the player committing his future to the Red Devils.

Casillas' contract at the Bernabeu lasts until 2017 and Real are now prepared to pay him £2.5m in addition to the £16m he is owed in wages.

That would make Casillas - previously linked with Arsenal and Liverpool - available on a free transfer in the summer.

And free up Real to move for De Gea without attracting criticism for unseating a player so beloved of their fans.

Pepe Reina, however, believes that De Gea should sign the extension on offer at United, saying: "He is one of the top 'keepers in Europe and this year he has been superb.

"Maybe Real Madrid are looking for a 'keeper and De Gea is one of the names suggested, but I think he should be happy enough playing for Man United."
