Vicente del Bosque SLAMS Louis van Gaal's treatment of Spanish goalkeeper

SPANISH manager Vicente del Bosque has hit out at Louis van Gaal's decision to bench Victor Valdes.

Speaking ahead of Spain's Euro 2016 clash with Ukraine, Del Bosque said it was a shame to see the 33-year-old sat on the sidelines.

He admits if it weren't for Van Gaal's decision to keep him out of the team, then he would have made the squad.

He told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: "Yes. I know that he is training. I try to look whether he is in the United's bench and I can see that he is currently a substitute.

Vicente del Bosque says he doesn't think Victor Valdes is enjoying his time on the sidelines

I wish him to play because he has always had a sensational attitude with Spain

"I wish him to play because he has always had a sensational attitude with Spain.

"I would like him to enjoy his job [rather than being on the bench] because as he gets older it's important he gets game time."

Valdes is yet to make his first team debut since moving to United on an 18-month deal in the January transfer window.

As a result, Del Bosque has been forced to replace him with Villarreal star Sergio Asenjo as the third keeper behind Casillas and David de Gea.
