The Southampton left-back has been fast-tracked into Southgate’s plans, and thinking, ahead of an anticipated debut for the friendly in Czech Republic.

But the 19-year-old has no plans for this outing to be a one-off as he aims to force his way into the plans for good.

He said: There’s a real expectation for England this year with the Euros here and the seniors not having anything.

“There’s pressure on the U21. But you can feel the determination to do well, everyone is really looking forward to it and it will be a good challenge for us.”

England’s young guns are using their base in Olomouc, a town situated 150 miles from the game in Prague, as a dress rehearsal for when the serious business begins in June.

Southgate’s men are also utilising the same resort and training facilities in order to feel at home in their unfamiliar surroundings.

Southgate added: “It’s about the attention to detail we’re looking for when we do go back in the summer which we’re looking to put into place.”
