Gary Neville: Manchester United's David De Gea is absolutely staggering

MANCHESTER UNITED icon Gary Neville has hailed David De Gea's rise to becoming a top Premier League shot-stopper.

De Gea, who made his move to Old Trafford in 2011 has made 124 appearances for the Red Devils, and has quickly established himself as one of the leagues best goalkeepers.

Even with the arrival for Victor Valdes, De Gea has remained as United's one constant as Louis van Gaal repeatedly tinkered with his formation outfield.

"If you look at the improvements he has made from where he was three years ago, it is absolutely staggering," Neville told Sky Sports.

"He is dominating one-on-ones, there has been a physical maturity and there has been a technical improvement, too. He has become a great goalkeeper."

His strong performances have caught the eye of Spanish giants Real Madrid, and Van Gaal will have a battle on his hands to keep De Gea at United.

"David de Gea, this year, is unbelievable," said Van Gaal. "In my career I have had a lot of good goalkeepers.

"For example, Edwin van der Sar was one of my goalkeepers and Valdes also with Barcelona, but De Gea is having a great season.

"He's saved us many times. His reflexes are very good."
