Smalling was on Arsene Wenger's radar back in 2010 before he moved to Old Trafford in a £10million deal.

Wenger also inquired about Smalling last summer, but he was knocked back with his attempt.

But according to the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are ready to try their luck again in the summer for the versatile defender.

The report suggests that Wenger is a long-term admirer of his and he may look to capitalise on Smalling's current contract situation, as his current deal expires in 2016.

Smalling's team-mates Phil Jones and Ashley Young are also out of contract at the end of next season, and they are set to be offered new deals.

United boast the third best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 27 goals in 30 matches.
