Chelsea legend lands international coaching role

CHELSEA favourite Carlo Cudicini has been named as the new goalkeeping coach of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 side.

Jose Mourinho pretty confident Chelsea will win the Premier League title

The 41-year-old made 142 Premier League appearances for the Blues, winning two FA Cups, two League Cups and two Community shields in the process.

Cudicini, who was also named as Chelsea's Player of the Year in 2002, recently earned his UEFA B Coaching Licence under the FAI, and replaces the retiring Alan O'Neill ahead of the U21's Championship qualifier against Andorra on Thursday.

Speaking to the FAI's official website, boss Noel King revealed that he was delighted to have Cudicini working alongside him, adding that the Italian's Stamford Bridge experience will be great for the Irish youngsters to draw upon.

"His experience will be a great help to us. It won't be just goalkeeping - we'll include him as we do with all our staff in the preparation. We'll value his views and hopefully that'll add strength to us.

"We're thankful to Alan O'Neill who has been with us and the association for a great number of years and has been a great servant.
