Michael Carrick says he wants to play for England for at least another year

Carrick, 33, last played for England in October 2013 and was left on manager Roy Hodgson's stand-by list for the World Cup last summer.

He withdrew from the England squad during their November international break this season but is back and hoping to get game time against Lithuania and Italy this month.

And the former Tottenham midfielder has revealed he is determined to force a way back into the England squad.

"I am enjoying my football," he said. "You get to a certain age and you don't know how long you have left.

"I feel great at the moment and have certainly got another year in me. It is special to be involved [in the England team].

"I love seeing the younger lads coming into the squad and performing with an enthusiasm and energy. There is a good feeling around."

Carrick is likely to play in midfield, potentially in front of United defensive team-mates Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

And when quizzed about the pair, Carrick said: "Both have been terrific and have come on a lot this season. They're turning into really top centre-halves."
