Barca estimate Man Utd, Chelsea and Real target Paul Pogba will cost £145m to sign

BARCELONA will not bid for Paul Pogba this summer because he is too expensive, handing Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid a major boost in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Pogba is valued at around £80million and is reportedly being chased by a host of Europe's top clubs.

However, officials at the Nou Camp estimate the France international would cost them even more in the long run, with his transfer fee, wages and other expenses totalling around £145m.

United and Chelsea are both known suitors, as are Bayern Munich, while Juventus reportedly turned down a bid from Real for the 22-year-old in January.

Barca were expected to join a furious bidding war this summer but a combination of factors have forced them out of the race, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.

They claim Barca's transfer ban, which was imposed by FIFA after allegations of breaking regulations in acquiring youth players, is their major hurdle to Pogba's arrival.

Barca can agree to sign players but are not allowed to fully register them until 2016.

Pogba is currently out injured and will miss Juve's Champions League quarter-final double header with Monaco next month.

But former England and Juve manager Fabio Capello believes the club can cope without their talismanic midfielder.

“It’s hard to beat Juventus in Italy," the Russia head coach said. "They’ve become aware of their own strength and reached a maturity which they didn’t have, (manager Massimiliano) Allegri has managed to give them something extra.

“They could progress in the Champions League, even if (Paul) Pogba is a big miss.”
