Jamie Carragher: Liverpool should bid for this 'brilliant' Steven Gerrard replacement
LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher has told Brendan Rodgers to sign Everton's James McCarthy as a replacement for Steven Gerrard.

The Anfield skipper was sent off in yesterday's defeat against Manchester United, and will leave Merseyside at the end of the season after agreeing a free transfer to LA Galaxy.
Rodgers is said to be on the look-out for a new midfielder, but knows that replacing the talismanic Gerrard will be a tough task.
However, Reds icon and Sky Sports pundit Carragher believes that one man who could fit the bill is Toffees star McCarthy, although it was unlikely that the Irishman would ever be welcome at Liverpool after becoming a key player at Goodison Park.
Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Carragher explained: "I love McCarthy, I think he's a brilliant player.

If there was one player I could take from Everton to Liverpool, it would be James McCarthy
"If there was one player I could take from Everton to Liverpool, it would be James McCarthy. I think he's just got to add goals.
"Jordan Henderson was maybe at that stage a year ago, where you really like what you see but there could be a few more goals or assists to take him up another level.
"Even though James McCarthy plays a more defensive role, he's shown he can get forward.
"He's a complete midfield player - he works hard, he can tackle, he can pass. I think eventually he'll be the captain there."
