The Italian striker was filmed making the gesture as he arrived at Anfield for the Reds game against Manchester United yesterday.

United fans chanted at Balotelli hoping to get a reaction and the combustible star didn't disappoint.

Fans can be heard yelling 'City reject' and 'What a waste of money' at the striker, who joined Liverpool in a £16million deal from AC Milan in the summer.

And after appearing to take a photo of the supporters in question on his phone the striker raised his middle finger in their direction.

Balotelli took to social media this morning to thank Liverpool fans for their support during the game.

The 24-year-old was held back by members of the crowd after a scuffle with United defender Chris Smalling and said on Facebook: "Besides all efforts the game didn't go our way.

"But one thing was real clear: I wasn't alone on the pitch. YNWA"
