Spurs' Harry Kane hands Leicester a hat-trick lashing to maintain Champions League hopes

HE has simply got to be picked for his England debut on Friday.

Harry Kane Player Profile

Spurs striker Harry Kane is the man in form, scoring goals when those in pole position, like Danny Welbeck and Daniel Sturridge, find it hard to buy one.

England need him like Spurs did yesterday.

His second hat-trick of the season, and first in the Premier League,  edged them over the line after Leicester had fed off Tottenham’s horror defending.

Spurs manager Maurico Pochettino was raging on the touchline as Spurs almost threw the game away after Leicester came back from two down and then added a third in the dying minutes.

Kane set his sights early, claiming two goals in 12 minutes before adding a third from the penalty spot after Leicester has clawed back to 2-2.

If Leicester get relegated, it will be a total travesty.

The visitors had Jamie Vardy running, working, scoring and almost edging Kane as match-winner.

But it was all supposed to be about Kane. And it was.

His goals have given him saint status at Spurs, coming within just days of his full England call-up.

He’s now 29 for the season and closing in on the record of 40 set by Clive Allen, also of Spurs, in 1987.

It was also about two keepers.

Harry Kane scored his second hat-trick of the season

Spurs lost Hugo Lloris within minute after Vardy and Kyle Walker collapsed on him when challenging for the ball.

He was stretchered off and replaced by Michel Vorm, who was once one of the best Premier League keepers until he bizarrely accepted being second fiddle at Spurs. Then enter Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel, who fluffed his big moment.

It took Kane just five minutes to show why he’s England’s new pin-up with his 27th goal of the season.

It came after Eric Dier headed on Christan Eriksen’s corner, Schmeichel powder-punched out and the ball dropped to football‘s man in form to turn in.

Spurs sub keeper Vorm pulled off a spectacular save from David Nugent before Kane struck again.

Walker surged down the right, crossed and Kane’s shot was wickedly deflected in the net off the back of Robert Huth.

Schmeichel made amends for his previous error by turning Eriksen’s 23rd-minute shot onto a post.

Leicester clawed one back when Vardy turned in David Nugent’s 38th-minute cross and it was game on when Wes Morgan headed in from Matty James’s 49th-minute corner.

Spurs eventually saw daylight when Kane added his third from the spot after a harsh penalty awarded by referee Mike Dean for Nugent’s clumsy tackle on Danny Rose.

Then when Eriksen broke through and saw his shot bounce off both Schmeichel and Jeff Schlupp to make it four for Spurs in the 85th minute, you felt for Leicester even more.

But they pulled another one back through Nugent in the 90th minute to leave Pochettino ranting.
