Hughes wants Begovic to commit his future to Stoke

Hughes will finalise a new four-year deal in the next few days and has set his sights on persuading his £12million-rated keeper to follow suit.

Begovic, inset, has 15 months left to run on his contract but has been watched by a host of top clubs including Inter Milan and Tottenham.

“My new contract has been agreed,” said Hughes. “It’s imminent, it’s with the lawyers and I don’t anticipate any issues.

“We’re not worried about Asmir. We are able to offer him a lot of the things he wants. We’re a top half Premier League side and we’ve backed it up.

Hughes added: “He’s playing regularly at the moment and has the platform. He’s enjoying his football and environment.

“That makes the process of renegotiating a bit more simple. We can offer him pretty much everything he needs.

“Hopefully the commitment myself and staff are showing will help the process.”

Begovic’s understudy Jack Butland has also signed a new four-year contract.

“There is a huge amount of potential with Jack,” said Hughes whose Stoke side take on Crystal Palace today. “He has the example in Asmir.”
