MANCHESTER UNITED, Chelsea and Arsenal target Sami Khedira is looking to leave Real Madrid for a move back to Germany.

That is the opinion of Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies, who has already expressed a desire to land the midfielder on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Khedira is set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after failing to extend his contract, and has a number of European clubs chasing his signature.

However, speaking to Bild, Tonnies claimed that the Germany international wants to return to his homeland after losing his place in Real's first XI to Toni Kroos.

Tonnies said: "It's my impression that Khedira wants to return to the Bundesliga.

"I believe he does not doubt that for a second. I believe there aren't too many clubs in Germany coming into question."
