Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool sit just two points off Manchester United in fifth in the Premier League

The Reds sit fifth in the league, two points off Manchester United in fourth and a further point away from third-place Arsenal.

They face United this Sunday knowing a win will put them in control of their own destiny, with just eight games of the domestic season remaining.

And Wenger believes Brendan Rodgers’ men can push for Champions League qualification, as well as sixth-place Southampton and Tottenham from seventh.

“They’re in the hunt yes of course,” Wenger said. “I think it’s very tight.

“We are on the neck of Manchester City and straight behind us have Manchester United and Liverpool.

“It is a very very tight race. Even Tottenham are not completely out of it, or Southampton.”

And when discussing a possible late title challenge, Wenger said: “The one thing we can master is positive results from us.

“I believe that (league leaders) Chelsea have a very good cushion and very good security.”
