Wolfsburg eye £33m Everton raid to reunite Romelu Lukaku with former Chelsea stars

WOLFSBURG are ready to test Romelu Lukaku's desire to play in the Champions League by making a £33million offer for the Everton striker, according to reports.

The German side are on track to qualify for Europe's top competition next season and are preparing to rekindle their interest in the Belgian after missing out last summer.

Lukaku opted to make a £28m move to Goodison Park from Stamford Bridge, but has since admitted that his aim is to get back to 'a club like Chelsea'.

Everton have performed well in the Europa League this term, but their struggles in the Premier League mean it is unlikely they will be competing in continental competition next term.

And Wolfsburg hope that they can capitalise to take the 21-year-old to Germany, according to the Mirror.

Lukaku would link up with former Chelsea teammates Kevin De Bruyne and Andre Schurrle if he did decide to make the move to the Volkswagen Arena.

Last month Lukaku shocked Everton by telling the Sun: "It was brilliant to play at Chelsea and I had a good reception.

"They know I'm a good player but that I want to develop so I can eventually get back to playing for a club like Chelsea.

"I don't have a secret ambition to rejoin — there are other clubs in the world.

"I just want to grow as a player and eventually arrive at a top club again."
