And speaking after his side's European exit, Pellegrini admitted that things were looking bleak back home as speculation mounts over his long-term future.

He said: "It's difficult because we are six points behind but we have nine games to play.
"We have to now focus on the Premier League. We'll see what happens but I hope we will recover."
