James Milner hails Joe Hart as keeper laments Manchester City's Barcelona defeat

JAMES MILNER has praised Joe Hart in the wake of Manchester City's Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

Manchester City v West Brom - Premier League Preview

The current Premier League champions crashed out of Europe 3-1 on aggregate, with Sergio Aguero missing a penalty at the Nou Camp just over 10 minutes from time.

Hart produced another masterclass between the sticks to keep the scoreline respectable for Manuel Pellegrini's men after keeping out Lionel Messi's penalty in the first leg at the Etihad.

And speaking after the match, Milner described his team-mate as 'incredible' for keeping City in with a shout for so long.

He said: "Joe Hart was incredible. He's shown what a great goalkeeper he is.

"It could have been out of sight but he was amazing tonight. We didn't show our best over both legs for long enough."

Joe Hart put in another good showing against Barcelona

We've gone out to a magnificent side for the second time in two years

Hart added that he was proud of City's performance against Barcelona, noting that Aguero's missed spot-kick was a wasted opportunity to salvage a result.

He explained: "We've gone out to a magnificent side for the second time in two years.

"They will get a lot of plaudits but we had a big chance with the penalty. We hung in there and didn't take it.

"It's unfortunate that I saved a penalty from Lionel Messi and it didn't count in the end. I'm in there to make saves and they hit me a lot of times tonight.

"I was busy, it was definitely busy! I just tried to smother them, they are always looking for a pass and you have to try and make them rush. I don't know how Neymar's chance stayed out at the start [when he hit the post]."
