Liverpool get transfer BOOST as club confirm another date on £10m pre-season tour

LIVERPOOL can expect to make over £10million from their pre-season tour this summer after adding a third date to their schedule.

Liverpool v Manchester United - Premier League Preview

The Reds today announced they will play a Malaysian XI on 24 July, a week after touring Australia.

It is the first time Liverpool will have played in Malaysia since 2011, when they played in Kuala Lumpar, and this clash is to be staged at Bukit Jalil's 80,000-seater National Stadium.

The club have already confirmed two tour dates on their summer schedule, both in Australia.

Those games, against Brisbane Roar and Adelaide United, are expected to generate £10m for the club coffers.

Pre-season revenue is increasingly seen as a means of boosting summer transfer budgets. Manchester United made a reported £8m in 2014 for a two-week stint in the United States, while Arsenal are this year reportedly planning a tour of India to crack into new markets.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers already has a list of targets in place for the summer transfer window and can expect some of the tour money to contribute to his negotiations.

They are seeking a replacement for departing midfielder and captain Steven Gerrard, while they have been strongly linked to England midfielder James Milner and France ace Morgan Schneiderlin.

Announcing the new date, Ian Ayre, Liverpool's chief executive officer, said: "Pre-season is an important time for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season and the match against the Malaysian XI is an exciting part of that preparation.

"The tour gives our supporters a chance to see the team up close, no matter how far away from Anfield they might live."
