KRIS COMMONS is desperate for Rangers to win promotion this season – because he misses the Old Firm rivalry.

Commons will try to help Celtic reach the Scottish Cup semi-finals tonight by seeing off Dundee United just three days after clinching the League Cup against them.

While the midfielder could be part of a historic Treble-winning side, he yearns for clashes with the Hoops’ arch-rivals.

Commons, above, said: “I want them back up as soon as possible because the games with Rangers are the best games.

“They draw the best crowds, a large TV audience from people all around the world.

“It makes people want to get out of bed in the middle of the night in Australia.

“My mates down south don’t know much about Scottish football, but they all want to see that game.

“I love playing in them. There are a lot of fans who are on the fence whether it’s right or wrong, but I love them.”

Commons says it’s been no surprise to see Gers struggle this term, having experienced something similar in England.

He added: “I have played in the Championship in England with teams trying to get back up and it’s not easy.

“It’s very difficult to have the wind knocked out of your sails and then have to quickly become a confident bunch of lads to get promotion.

“But when you are struggling – as Rangers are – that’s when you need to call on experience and that’s what they have tried to do with Stuart McCall.”
