The midfielder was called into the Republic of Ireland squad last week, and he was hitting the headlines once again at the Cardiff City Stadium with a candidate for the Championship’s goal of the season.

The Cherries took the lead in the 16th minute with Arter’s seventh goal of the campaign, the midfielder, right, beating Simon Moore with a 35-yard screamer.

But Bruno Manga struck back in the 62nd minute when he headed home Peter Whittingham’s corner.

Charlton’s Chris Eagles returned to Blackpool to score one of the goals that pushed his former club ever closer to League One.

Eagles is one of 53 players to have appeared for the sorry Seasiders this season but his second goal for the Addicks set up their fourth win in five games.

The winger tapped in after 32 minutes, Simon Church drove home his first league goal since November, 2013 after an hour, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson made it 3-0.

Benik Afobe became the top scorer in English football this season with his 27th goal as Wolves continued their pursuit of the top six with a thumping 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The Wanderers striker now has eight for the club, along with 19 for MK Dons.

Troy Deeney made it six consecutive games with a goal as his double gave Watford – who sit top of the table on goal difference – a 2-0 win away to lowly Wigan.
