The 21-year-old, who had been on the radar of Real Madrid and also Roma, turned down a move to the Italian capital last June.

And now the Spaniard's agent, Olaf Bonales has insisted that he would prefer to remain in the Premier League.

Bonales said: "We prefer to remain in England and he still has four years on his contract with Newcastle."

"At the moment I do not think [there is a chance of him going to Italy], but who knows what will happen?"

And Newcastle boss John Carver has confirmed that there has been interest in Perez from Manchester City and other top Premier League clubs.

He told the Newcastle Chronicle: "I'm not surprised [by the interest in Perez]. He's a young lad and an exciting talent.

"I know for a fact there is interest.

"You go in coaches' rooms after games and have a chat. A few people have spoken very highly of him, which is good.
