Thibaut Courtois believes Chelsea were unlucky to only draw against Southampton

Forster pulled off a number of terrific saves as the Blues picked up just one point at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, although the blow was softened by Manchester City's loss at Burnley earlier on the weekend.

Chelsea remain six points ahead of Manuel Pellegrini's men, and also have the luxury of a game in hand still to play.

Speaking to the club's official website, Courtois admitted that the result was hard to swallow following Chelsea's second-half domination, but the Belgian conceded that Forster played a vital role to help Ronald Koeman return to St Mary's with an extremely credible draw.

Southampton are a good side, they've done well this season and it wasn't an easy game

Fraser Forster

Courtois said: "It's a pity we couldn't score the second goal, we pushed Southampton back into their box but we couldn't find the gaps to score. We had quite a few chances but Forster made some good saves.

"Sometimes there are moments in a season where things aren't going as well as you want them to. Teams are playing very defensively against us, maybe at the start of the season they were more offensive and there was more space.

"We've gained a point on Man City, obviously if we were three ahead it would have been better so that's a pity, but Southampton are a good side, they've done well this season and it wasn't an easy game."
