Jerome Sinclair has signed for Wigan

The 18-year-old has been part of the Reds' under-21 side this term and Brendan Rodgers is keen for him to gain first team experience in the Championship.

Sinclair became Liverpool's youngest ever player when he appeared as a substitute against West Brom in 2012, six days after his 16th birthday.

Latics boss Malky Mackay and Rodgers worked together at Watford and spoke at length about Sinclair before the deal was agreed.

“We had a long chat about Jerome and we both feel that this is a positive step for him to make in his career, which will hopefully benefit both clubs," Mackay said.

“We have to thank Liverpool for allowing him to come to Wigan, but they have seen how well Sheyi is progressing and that we are a club who will nurture a young player with potential.

"We are all hopeful he can make a good contribution during his time here.”

Sinclair, who has 10 England Caps at Under 16 and 17 level, has netted 22 goals so far this season in all competitions for Liverpool's under-18s and under-21s.
