Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool playing CATCH-UP as Schalke open talks with Sami Khedira

Schalke have begun talks with Sami Khedira over a contract to tempt him away from Real Madrid, denting Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea's summer transfer plans in the process.

Germany ace Khedira has struggled to find games under manager Carlo Ancelotti this season and is on the verge of leaving the club.

His contract express this summer and he was expected to move to the Premier League, where his services are reportedly in high demand.

Arsenal are known to be keen on the 27-year-old, as are Liverpool, who are seeking a replacement for departing captain Steven Gerrard.

Chelsea were also mooted as suitors for Khedira, who won the World Cup with Germany last summer.

But Schalke president Clemens Tonnies today told Bild the Bundesliga club are ready to sign him before the Premier League trio do.

"There have been initial talks. We believe that a fit-again Khedira would help us," he said.
