Angel Di Maria has scored just four goals for Man Utd this season

Di Maria signed for United from Real Madrid for a club record £60million last summer and, despite a strong start, has struggled to impress at Old Trafford.

He was sent off against Arsenal in the FA Cup last Monday and there are reports linking him to an exit this summer.

But Van Gaal says his midfielder will remain at the club heading into next season.

"I am always compassionate about a player's needs and although I cannot say anything for definite about his future, I don't think he will move," he said.

Phil Bardsley's wife has spoken out over an incident involving the Sunderland player and Wayne Rooney.

Rooney appeared to be knocked out in a video where he and Bardsley enjoyed a friendly boxing bout the United captain's kitchen.

The video was played on The Sun on Sunday's website and Bardsley's wife, Tanya, tweeted: "Seen the sun, 2 mates havin a laugh video doesn't show Wayne jumping straight up and laughing with Phil #cleveredit"

Michael Carrick insists United's full focus is on reclaiming Champions League football for next season.

United have been without European competition this campaign and sit fourth in the Premier League.

Ahead of today's clash with Tottenham, the midfielder said: “We know Champions League qualification is vital.

"Missing out last year was a big blow. This year, we’re in a good position and have given ourselves a chance.

"We’ve got a tough run of games, starting on Sunday, but we’re at home and looking to play well and win the match.”

In transfer news, Liverpool have jumped ahead of United in the race to sign PSV ace Memphis Depay.

The midfielder is valued at £20million and Van Gaal is keen on bringing a Netherlands regular into his squad.

But Liverpool have scouts in Holland and are in regular contact with his agent, claim reports.

The Reds are likely to place a bid for Depay this summer and leave United searching for a replacement winger.
