Jose Mourinho's selection policy at Chelsea ruined Champions League dream - Danny Mills

CHELSEA could have avoided a Champions League upset last Wednesday if manager Jose Mourinho had rotated his first XI.

Jose Mourinho (right) has come under fire for his selection policy at Chelsea

That is the view of former Leeds and Manchester United right-back Danny Mills, who believes the blues boss has created a "tired" team by refusing the swap players.

Chelsea currently sit top of the Premier League but crashed out of Europe this week on a 3-3 aggregate result with PSG.

The Blues even had Zlatan Ibrahinovic sent off but couldn't break downy he Paris side, who scored an injury-time leveller to edge through to the quarter-finals on away goals.

Mourinho made just one change from his side against Southampton today, drafting Ramires back into the XI.

And Mills believes Chelsea lack fire power because forward Diego Costa is not getting a rest.

"Jose Mourinho has won the Champions League, he's won titles and cups but he is very defensive first and foremost - that is his style," Mills told BBC 5 Live.

"But they got it wrong, Chelsea, they seemed to freeze the other night.

"I wonder whether they have over-relied on that special eight or nine players that Mourinho uses every week.

"Are they a bit tired now? A bit jaded? Loic Remy and Didier Drogba were on the bench against PSG and have hardly had a kick this season. Surely he could have rotated more?"
