The Black Cats went four down before half time as Christian Benteke and Gabrield Agbonlahor bagged doubles at the Stadium of Light.

Emotions boiled over as a number of fans allegedly tried to get to manager Gus Poyet in the Sunderland technical area.

Brown told the BBC: "To go 4-0 behind before half-time is disappointing to say the least.

"Aston Villa were creating chances and it took us until the second half to create chances. But it was all over by then.

"We have to lift it now and train hard. Of course I understand the boos. We have been terrible at home.

"We have to let this game go and train hard ahead of next week's game."
