Ronnie Deila wants Celtic treble

CELTIC boss Ronny Deila claims he’s right to trumpet his side’s Treble push, as saying anything else is “boring” and only for losers.

Ronny Deila wants to win the treble this season

Deila has had his mind set on a clean sweep of domestic trophies since the first day of the season, and tomorrow has the chance to grab the first leg of a potential hat-trick against Dundee United in the League Cup Final at Hampden.

The former Stromsgodset manager makes no apologies for being driven to win all the domestic prizes available in his debut campaign, and for talking about a potential Treble whenever asked the question.

He said: “I learned that at Stromsgodset. If you say you’re satisfied to be No 6, then you come sixth. If you say you only want to get to the cup final, you lose the final. You have to say you win the league or League Cup. You have to reach for something.

“This club is so big and has such a good team that it’s possible. If I didn’t think it was possible, I wouldn’t say it.

“But I know it’s possible and that’s why I set high goals and make high demands.

“What’s the worst thing that can happen? You don’t reach your goals?

“I can say I’m happy to win one title this year and reach a goal, but that’s boring.

“You can say something else, but everybody knows the demands of this club.

“I’ve said that all season and there’s so much hard work and so many games, but we’ve a good chance to win a trophy and have prepared for that.”

The Norwegian 39-year-old will be cheered on by family, including twin daughters Live and Thile.

The first game the 15-year-old girls saw was a 1-0 home loss to Hamilton back in October last year – and dad Ronny wondered if they were a jinx.

But since then they have witnessed key wins, including a season-turning victory at Aberdeen, and will be more than welcome at the national stadium – even if dad is warned to be on his best behaviour.

A smiling Deila said: “I have to be fair with them. They were at the Aberdeen game, away, standing with the supporters. It was a crazy experience for them.

“They said the supporters were crazy and they don’t look at the match. They smelled smoke and beers!”

Deila stripped to his underwear when celebrating staying in the Norwegian top flight with Stromsgodset – but has vowed not to embarrass his kids if Celtic win.

He added: “They were there when I took off my clothes. We were sitting on the couch the day after, watching it on television. It was not a great sight!

“If we win on Sunday, you can expect a good celebration. But I’ll not take off my clothes.”
