And Pellegrini, who has 14 months left on his current deal, will be happy to sign an extension, despite his agent linking him with a possible move to Napoli as Rafa Benitez’s replacement this summer.

Pellegrini’s job will come under close scrutiny if City fail to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit against Barcelona and exit the Champions League on Wednesday and then finish behind Chelsea in the domestic title race.

But Pellegrini dismissed suggestions he could quit the Etihad Stadium for Italy at the end of the season and does not think City’s demanding Abu Dhabi owners will judge purely him on his success in landing trophies.

“My future is very simple,” he said. “I have contract here until June 2016 and I will finish my contract here and if I can extend my contract, I will extend my contract.

“When I sign a contract, I always try to finish my contract in the amount of years I sign at the beginning.

If I am not happy, maybe you try and finish your contract before.

“But here I am very happy. I will continue without any problems until the end of my contract.”

Pellegrini denied there were any lingering problems in the dressing room after revelations that skipper Vincent Kompany and midfielder Fernandinho had a heated exchange at half-time of the recent defeat to Liverpool.

“There is not any problem in the dressing room,” he added. “That happened a lot of days ago.

It is normal that in one game that there can be a discussion between two players but it was not important for the team.

But here I am very happy. I will continue without any problems until the end of my contract.

Inside the dressing room, we don’t have any problems.

“Was there a bust-up? There was a normal scene, nothing important. It is not important to talk about what happened 20 days ago. The spirit is normal.

“I don’t worry about what the media want to say about different things. I manage the squad in one way.

I don’t have any problems with the players. There are no problems inside the dressing room so it doesn’t matter what the media want to tell.”

Kompany and Fernandinho were among five players dropped following the Anfield setback for City’s last game aginast Leicester but both are set to return at Burnley tomorrow where a City victory can close the gap on Chelsea to two points with Jose Mourinho's team playing West Ham on Sunday.
